AutoCAD MTEXT Command: How to Add Multiline Text Notes
Creates formatted multiline paragraph text that acts as one object.

- Multiline Text
The AutoCAD MTEXT command places paragraph text inside a text box. The whole paragraph is one object, and lines wrap automatically to the width of the box.
Once you define the box, the Text Editor tab opens on the ribbon. There you can set the font, height, bold and italic, color, bullets, numbering, columns and symbols, much like a word processor.
For general notes, legends and specification text, MTEXT gives far tidier results than single-line text.
How to use it
- Type MTEXT or T and press Enter.
- Pick the first corner of the text box.
- Pick the opposite corner, or set options such as height and justification first.
- Type the text and format it from the ribbon.
- Click outside the box or press Ctrl+Enter to finish.
Options
- Height (H)
- Sets the text height.
- Justify (J)
- Sets the alignment of the text within the box (TL, MC, BR and so on).
- Line spacing (L)
- Sets line spacing as At least or Exactly.
- Rotation (R)
- Sets the rotation angle of the text box.
- Width (W)
- Lets you type the width of the box.
- Columns (C)
- Splits the text into static or dynamic columns.
Notes and tips
- A width of 0 turns off word wrap, so lines break only where you press Enter.
- Use the Symbol menu in the editor for diameter, degree and plus-minus signs.
- EXPLODE turns an MTEXT object into single-line text objects when you need that.
