The AutoCAD STYLE command opens the Text Style dialog. There you create text styles, change the font, height and effects of existing ones, and set a style current.
When you change a style, TEXT and MTEXT that use it update as well, although formatting applied inside mtext may override it. Dimension styles also refer to a text style for their text.
Both TrueType (TTF) fonts and AutoCAD SHX fonts can be used.
How to use it
- Type STYLE or ST and press Enter.
- Click New and name the style.
- Pick a font from Font Name, then set the height and effects if needed.
- Click Apply and Set Current, then close the dialog.
Options
- Font Name
- Chooses the TrueType or SHX font for the style.
- Height
- Fixed text height; leave it at 0 to be asked for a height each time.
- Annotative
- Makes text scale automatically with the annotation scale.
- Width Factor
- Compresses or expands characters horizontally; 1 is normal width.
- Oblique Angle
- Slants the characters.
- Upside down / Backwards / Vertical
- Writes text upside down, mirrored or vertical; Vertical is available only for suitable SHX fonts.
Notes and tips
- If accented or special characters display wrongly, choose a TrueType font that includes them.
- A height of 0 lets you use the same style at different sizes and is the more flexible choice for dimension styles.
- Remove unused text styles with PURGE; the Standard style cannot be deleted.
