AutoCAD TEXT Command: How to Add Single-Line Text Fast
Creates single-line text where each line is a separate object.

- Single-Line Text
The AutoCAD TEXT command adds single-line text to a drawing. Press Enter to start a new line, but note that each line becomes a separate TEXT object. It works well for labels, short notes and numbers.
The command asks for a start point, then the text height and rotation angle. If the current text style has a fixed height, the height prompt is skipped.
For longer text with paragraphs, bullets or mixed formatting, use MTEXT instead.
How to use it
- Type TEXT or DT and press Enter.
- Pick the start point; type J first if you need a different justification.
- Enter the text height and rotation angle.
- Type the text and press Enter for a new line.
- Press Enter on an empty line to end the command.
Options
- Justify (J)
- Sets the alignment point: Left, Center, Right, Middle, Align, Fit, and combinations such as TL, MC or BR.
- Style (S)
- Changes the current text style by name.
- Height
- The text height; only asked when the style height is 0.
- Rotation angle
- The angle of the text in the drawing.
Notes and tips
- Clicking somewhere else during the command starts a new piece of text there, so you can place several labels in one go.
- If special characters show up as question marks, choose a TrueType font in the text style that supports them.
- Double-click the text or use TEXTEDIT to change existing text.
