AutoCAD Sequential Numbering LISP: Click to Place Numbers
Writes an increasing number, with optional prefix and suffix, at every point you click.
TXTSEQLoad the downloaded .lsp file with the APPLOAD command in AutoCAD or GstarCAD, then type the command name. How to load a LISP file
Download all tools in one file (138 KB)TXTSEQ is an AutoCAD sequential numbering LISP. Set a start number, an increment and an optional prefix (for example "R-") and suffix, then click in the drawing; each click places the next number. It saves time when numbering rooms, columns, circuits, outlets or fixtures.
The TCOUNT command in Express Tools numbers texts that already exist in the drawing, sorted by position. TXTSEQ works the other way round: it creates new texts where you click, and the order is simply the order of your clicks. The next number is shown in the prompt at every step.
Settings are remembered for the current session, and the next run offers to continue from where you stopped. All numbers placed in one run form a single undo group.
How to use it
- Load the file with APPLOAD and type TXTSEQ.
- Enter the start number and the increment; Enter keeps the previous value.
- Enter a prefix and a suffix; type a single space and press Enter to clear an existing one.
- Enter the text height, or press Enter to accept the current TEXTSIZE.
- Click each point where a number should be centered, then press Enter to finish.
Notes and tips
- Whole numbers only; decimal sequences like 1.1, 1.2 and letter sequences like A, B, C are not supported.
- A negative increment counts downward.
- Texts are created on the current layer, in the current text style, middle-center justified on the picked point.
- Settings are kept only while the session is open; after restarting AutoCAD they return to 1, 1 and an empty prefix and suffix.
Frequently asked questions
How do I place sequential numbers in AutoCAD?
Run TXTSEQ, enter the start number and increment, then click where each number should go. The number grows by the increment at every click.
How is this different from TCOUNT?
TCOUNT in Express Tools numbers texts that already exist. TXTSEQ creates new number texts at the points you click.
Can I stop and continue numbering later?
Yes, within the same session. The next run offers the number where you stopped as the start value; just press Enter.
