The AutoCAD POINT command adds a point object that marks a single coordinate. Points are used for reference marks, survey and setting-out work, and as the markers created by DIVIDE and MEASURE.
The default point style is a single dot that is easy to miss. Open the Point Style dialog with PTYPE and choose a cross, circle or other marker to make points clearly visible.
Use the Node object snap to snap exactly to points.
How to use it
- Type POINT or PO and press Enter.
- Pick the location or type its coordinates.
- For several points in a row, use the Multiple Points button on the ribbon and press Esc when done.
- If the points are hard to see, choose a clearer style with PTYPE.
Options
- PDMODE
- System variable that sets how point objects are displayed.
- PDSIZE
- Sets the size of the point marker, relative to the screen or in absolute units.
- PTYPE (DDPTYPE)
- Opens the Point Style dialog to choose the marker and size visually.
Notes and tips
- Changing the point style affects every point in the drawing; run REGEN if the change doesn't show.
- Make sure the Node object snap is turned on to snap to points.
- Use the ID command to read the coordinates of a point.
