AutoCAD DIVIDE Command: How to Split Into Equal Segments
Places points or blocks along an object to divide it into equal segments.

The AutoCAD DIVIDE command places point objects along a line, arc, circle, polyline or spline to divide it into a number of equal segments. Start it with DIVIDE or the alias DIV. The object itself is not cut; the division points are only marked.
You can place a block instead of points. The Block option is a practical way to space light fixtures, columns or trees evenly along a wall or path, and the blocks can optionally be aligned with the object.
How to use it
- Type DIVIDE or DIV and press Enter.
- Select the object to divide.
- Type the number of segments and press Enter, or type B and enter a block name.
- Change the point style if needed so the points are visible.
Options
- Number of segments
- How many equal segments to create; enter a value from 2 to 32767.
- Block
- Inserts a block defined in the drawing instead of points. AutoCAD asks whether to align the blocks with the object.
Notes and tips
- Points are hard to see with the default point style; pick a clearer one with PTYPE (DDPTYPE).
- Use the Node object snap to snap to the placed points.
- If you need a fixed spacing rather than a number of segments, use MEASURE.
