AutoCAD LAYISO Command: Isolate the Layer of an Object
Hides, or locks and fades, all layers except the layers of the selected objects.
- Command
- LAYISO
- English name
- Layer Isolate
The AutoCAD LAYISO command isolates the layers of the objects you select. Those layers stay visible and editable, while every other layer is either turned off or locked and faded. It is a quick way to focus on one system or one floor in a busy drawing.
You do not need to know the layer names; you just pick objects on screen. If you select several objects, all of their layers are isolated.
To reverse the isolation, run LAYUNISO. It restores the layer states that existed before LAYISO, while keeping other layer property changes you made in the meantime.
How to use it
- Type LAYISO and press Enter.
- Optionally choose Settings to decide whether other layers are turned off or locked and faded.
- Select one or more objects on the layers you want to isolate and press Enter.
- Work on the isolated layers.
- Run LAYUNISO to return to the previous layer display.
Options
- Select objects
- Picks the objects whose layers stay visible; all their layers are isolated.
- Settings
- Controls what happens to the layers that are not isolated: Off or Lock and fade.
- Off
- Turns other layers off. In a paper space viewport, Vpfreeze freezes them in that viewport only.
- Lock and fade
- Keeps other layers visible but locks them and displays them faded.
Notes and tips
- Lock and fade keeps the rest of the drawing visible as a reference, which is often more useful than Off.
- LAYUNISO only restores the state before the most recent LAYISO, so avoid stacking several isolations.
- The fade amount is stored in the LAYLOCKFADECTL system variable.
