The AutoCAD COPY command creates one or more copies of selected objects at a specified distance and direction. Start it with COPY or the aliases CO or CP. By default the command keeps placing copies until you press Enter.
COPY works the same way as MOVE, with a base point and a second point, except that the original stays where it is. The Array option at the second point prompt places several evenly spaced copies in one step.
How to use it
- Type COPY, CO or CP and press Enter.
- Select the objects to copy and press Enter.
- Pick a base point using an object snap.
- Pick a second point for each copy you want to place.
- Press Enter or Esc to finish.
Options
- Displacement
- Enter an X,Y,Z displacement instead of picking a base point and a second point.
- mOde
- Switches between Single and Multiple copy modes. In Single mode the command ends after one copy.
- Array
- Available at the second point prompt. Places a set number of copies in a linear arrangement; the Fit sub-option spreads them over the distance you specify.
- Undo
- Removes the last copy without leaving the command.
Notes and tips
- The default single or multiple behavior is controlled by the COPYMODE system variable.
- For many copies in rows, columns or around a center, ARRAY is more flexible.
- With Ortho (F8) on, point in a direction and type a distance for exact copies.
