The AutoCAD ARRAY command creates copies of selected objects in a regular pattern. Start it with ARRAY or the alias AR. There are three array types: rectangular arrays in rows and columns, polar arrays around a center point, and path arrays along a line or curve.
You can also start each type directly with ARRAYRECT, ARRAYPOLAR and ARRAYPATH. By default arrays are associative: all copies form a single array object, and you can change counts and spacing later with grips, the Array contextual ribbon tab or the ARRAYEDIT command.
How to use it
- Type ARRAY or AR and press Enter.
- Select the objects and press Enter.
- Choose the array type: Rectangular, PAth or POlar.
- For a polar array pick the center point; for a path array select the path curve.
- Adjust counts and spacing with the options or grips, then press Enter.
Options
- Rectangular
- Distributes copies in rows and columns. Use COUnt, Spacing, COLumns and Rows to set numbers and distances.
- POlar
- Distributes copies around a center point. You can set the item count, angle between items and fill angle; ROTate items controls whether copies rotate.
- PAth
- Distributes copies along a line, polyline, arc or spline, either at a set spacing or divided evenly along the path.
- ASsociative
- Sets whether the result is a single editable array object or independent objects.
- Base point
- Sets the reference point used to place the array and its grips.
Notes and tips
- Explode an associative array with EXPLODE to turn it into independent objects.
- If you prefer the older dialog-based array tool, use the ARRAYCLASSIC command.
- Hold Ctrl and click a single item to edit it within an associative array.
