AutoCAD CHAMFER Command: How to Bevel Corners Precisely
Bevels the corner between two lines with a straight chamfer line.

- English name
- Chamfer
The AutoCAD CHAMFER command cuts the corner between two lines that intersect, or could intersect if extended, with a straight beveled line. Start it with CHAMFER or the alias CHA. It is common in machine parts, stairs and wall details.
You can define a chamfer by two distances measured along each line from the corner, or by a length and an angle. With both distances set to 0, CHAMFER joins the two lines at a sharp corner, much like FILLET with a radius of 0.
How to use it
- Type CHAMFER or CHA and press Enter.
- Type D to set the first and second chamfer distances, or A to set a length and angle.
- Select the first line; the first distance applies to it.
- Select the second line.
Options
- Distance
- Sets the lengths cut from the first and second lines, measured from the corner.
- Angle
- Sets the chamfer length on the first line and the angle the chamfer makes with it.
- mEthod
- Chooses whether chamfers use two distances or a length and an angle.
- Trim
- With Trim on, the lines are trimmed to the chamfer line; with No trim they are kept.
- Polyline
- Chamfers every vertex of a 2D polyline in one step.
- Multiple
- Chamfers several corners without restarting the command.
Notes and tips
- The current chamfer distances and trim mode are shown on the command line when CHAMFER starts.
- Hold Shift while selecting the second line to create a sharp corner instead of a chamfer.
- For rounded corners, use FILLET.
