AutoCAD AUDIT Command: Find and Fix Drawing Errors
Checks the integrity of the drawing database and can fix the errors it finds.
- Command
- AUDIT
- English name
- Audit
The AutoCAD AUDIT command scans the database of the open drawing for corrupt or inconsistent records. It asks whether to fix the errors it finds; answer Yes and AutoCAD repairs what it can.
If a drawing crashes for no clear reason, has objects that cannot be selected, shows errors on save or behaves oddly after coming from another program, AUDIT is the first thing to try. At the end, the command reports how many errors were found and fixed.
AUDIT works on drawings that open. If a file will not open or fails while opening, use RECOVER instead, which audits the file as it opens it.
How to use it
- Make a backup copy of the file.
- Type AUDIT and press Enter.
- At the Fix any errors detected prompt, enter Y (Yes).
- Check the report on the command line for errors found and fixed.
- Save the file, and run PURGE afterward if needed.
Options
- Yes
- Fixes the errors that are found.
- No
- Only reports errors and leaves the drawing unchanged.
- AUDITCTL
- When set to 1, the audit report is written to an .adt file next to the drawing.
Notes and tips
- It sometimes takes more than one AUDIT run to reach zero errors.
- Use RECOVER for files that will not open, and RECOVERALL to repair a drawing together with its xrefs.
- Running AUDIT on DWG files from other software before you start working on them is a good habit.
