LAYTOCUR is an AutoCAD move to current layer LISP tool. When you start it, the selection prompt shows the name of the current layer; select objects, press Enter, and they all move to that layer. No Properties palette and no searching through the layer list.

AutoCAD's built-in LAYCUR does the same job. LAYTOCUR shows the target layer name right in the prompt, so you know where things will land, and it uses the same command name in full AutoCAD and in GstarCAD. A quick routine is to set a layer current with LAYSETPICK, then use LAYTOCUR to bring other objects onto it.

The command line reports how many objects were moved, and one U undoes the whole change.

How to use it

  1. Load laytocur.lsp with APPLOAD.
  2. Make the layer you want current if needed (for example with LAYSETPICK).
  3. Type LAYTOCUR and check the layer name shown in the prompt.
  4. Select the objects to move and press Enter.

Notes and tips

  • Objects on locked layers are not moved; unlock the layer first.
  • Only the block reference changes layer; objects inside the block keep their own layers.
  • Only the layer changes. If an object has its own color or linetype (not ByLayer), its appearance may stay the same.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move objects to the current layer in AutoCAD?

Run LAYTOCUR, select the objects and press Enter. They move to the current layer, whose name is shown in the prompt.

Is this the same as LAYCUR?

The result is the same. LAYTOCUR shows the target layer name in the prompt and has the same command name in AutoCAD and GstarCAD.
