AutoCAD PEDIT Command: How to Edit and Join Polylines
Edits polylines and converts and joins lines and arcs into polylines.
- Command
- PEDIT
- Aliases
- PE
- English name
- Polyline Edit
The AutoCAD PEDIT command edits 2D polylines. Start it with PEDIT or the alias PE. You can close or open a polyline, change its width, join other objects to it, curve it or reverse its direction.
If you select a line or arc that is not a polyline, AutoCAD asks whether to turn it into one. This is the classic way to convert separate lines into a polyline and then merge them into a single object with the Join option.
How to use it
- Type PEDIT or PE and press Enter.
- Select the polyline, or type M (Multiple) first to select several objects.
- If the object is not a polyline, answer Yes to convert it.
- Type the option you need, such as J, W or C, and press Enter.
- Press Enter to exit when you are done.
Options
- Close / Open
- Closes an open polyline by connecting its last vertex to the first, or opens a closed one.
- Join
- Adds lines, arcs and polylines whose endpoints connect to the polyline.
- Width
- Sets a single uniform width for all segments.
- Edit vertex
- Opens sub-options to move, insert or remove individual vertices and more.
- Fit / Spline / Decurve
- Smooths the polyline with arcs through the vertices or with a spline curve; Decurve removes the curves and restores straight segments.
- Reverse
- Reverses the vertex order and therefore the direction of the polyline.
Notes and tips
- With the Multiple option you can join several lines and enter a fuzz distance to bridge small gaps.
- Set PEDITACCEPT to 1 to convert non-polylines without being asked.
- The Ltype gen option makes a dashed linetype flow continuously along the whole polyline instead of restarting at each vertex.
