AutoCAD JOIN Command: How to Join Lines, Arcs and Polylines
Combines suitably placed lines, arcs, polylines and splines into a single object.

- English name
- Join
The AutoCAD JOIN command combines objects that meet end to end, or that lie on the same line or curve, into a single object. Start it with JOIN or the alias J. It works with lines, arcs, elliptical arcs, polylines, splines and helixes.
The result depends on the object types: collinear lines become one line, arcs on the same imaginary circle become one arc, and a mix of connected lines, arcs and polylines becomes a single polyline. This lets you turn a scattered boundary into one closed polyline so you can measure its area or offset it.
How to use it
- Type JOIN or J and press Enter.
- Select the objects to join; you can select them all at once.
- Press Enter to finish the selection.
- Check the command line for the number of objects joined.
Options
- Source object
- The first object selected is the source and the others are joined to it. You can also select several objects at once.
- cLose
- When a single arc is the source, converts it to a full circle; a single elliptical arc becomes a full ellipse.
Notes and tips
- Lines must be collinear to join into a line; gaps between them are allowed.
- To create a polyline, endpoints must coincide exactly; to bridge small gaps, use the fuzz distance in the PEDIT Multiple Join option.
- Arcs are joined counterclockwise.
