The AutoCAD CIRCLE command draws a circle from a center point and radius by default, and also offers diameter, two-point, three-point and tangent-to-two-objects methods.
The tangent methods are handy for fillets, pipe and shaft details and similar geometry. The Circle drop-down on the ribbon also includes a Tan, Tan, Tan option for a circle tangent to three objects.
How to use it
- Type CIRCLE or C and press Enter.
- Pick the center point, or type 3P, 2P or T to choose another method.
- Type the radius, or type D and enter a diameter.
- Press Enter to create the circle.
Options
- 3P
- Draws a circle through three points on its circumference.
- 2P
- Draws a circle from the two endpoints of its diameter.
- Ttr (T)
- Draws a circle of a given radius tangent to two selected objects.
- Diameter (D)
- Lets you enter a diameter instead of a radius.
Notes and tips
- The last radius you used is offered as the default next time, so pressing Enter repeats the same size.
- For concentric circles, draw one and use OFFSET; it is often faster.
- With Ttr, if no circle of that radius can touch both objects, no circle is created.
