AutoCAD RECTANG Command: How to Draw Rectangles Fast
Draws a rectangle as a closed polyline from two corners, dimensions or an area.
- Command
- RECTANG
- Aliases
- REC
- English name
- Rectangle
The AutoCAD RECTANG command draws a rectangle from two opposite corners. The result is one closed polyline, not four separate lines, so it is easy to move, offset and measure.
At the second-corner prompt you can type exact dimensions, enter an area and one side length so AutoCAD calculates the other side, or rotate the rectangle to a given angle.
For rectangles with chamfered or rounded corners, set the Chamfer or Fillet option before you pick the first corner.
How to use it
- Type RECTANG or REC and press Enter.
- Set a chamfer, fillet or width if needed, then pick the first corner.
- Pick the opposite corner, or type D (Dimensions) and enter the length and width.
- If you entered dimensions, click to choose which direction the rectangle extends.
Options
- Chamfer (C)
- Chamfers the corners with the two distances you enter.
- Fillet (F)
- Rounds the corners with the radius you enter.
- Width (W)
- Sets the polyline width of the rectangle.
- Dimensions (D)
- Lets you type the length and width instead of picking the second corner.
- Area (A)
- Creates the rectangle from an area and one side length.
- Rotation (R)
- Draws the rectangle rotated by the angle you specify.
Notes and tips
- Relative input is the fastest method: after the first corner, type @300,200 for a 300 by 200 rectangle.
- Chamfer, fillet and width settings carry over to the next RECTANG command; set them to 0 for square corners.
- Use EXPLODE if you need to edit the four sides as separate lines.
