The AutoCAD BEDIT command opens a block definition in the Block Editor. There you draw, delete or modify the objects inside the block. When you save, every instance of that block in the drawing updates at once.
The command first shows the Edit Block Definition dialog with previews of the blocks in the drawing. Select a block and click OK to open the editor; the background color changes to show you are in editing mode. For most blocks, double-clicking the block opens the same dialog.
The Block Editor also provides the Block Authoring Palettes with parameters and actions for building dynamic blocks. To finish, use BCLOSE or the Close Block Editor button on the ribbon.
How to use it
- Type BEDIT or BE and press Enter, or double-click a block.
- In the Edit Block Definition dialog, select the block and click OK.
- Change the objects with the usual drawing and editing commands.
- Use BSAVE or the Save Block button to save your changes.
- Exit with BCLOSE or Close Block Editor.
Options
- Block to create or edit
- Choose the block from the list; typing a new name creates an empty block definition.
- <Current Drawing>
- Edits the current drawing itself as a block.
- BSAVE
- Saves the block definition without leaving the editor.
- BCLOSE
- Closes the editor and asks whether to save any unsaved changes.
- Test Block
- Lets you try a dynamic block in a separate window before saving.
Notes and tips
- Edits affect every instance of the block; to change just one, copy the block under a new name.
- The block's base point is at 0,0 in the editor; move the geometry relative to it to change the base point.
- Xrefs are not edited with BEDIT; use REFEDIT or open the source file.
