AutoCAD ALIGN Command: Move, Rotate and Scale at Once
Aligns objects with other objects using pairs of source and destination points.

The AutoCAD ALIGN command aligns selected objects with other objects by picking pairs of source and destination points. Start it with ALIGN or the alias AL. It combines MOVE, ROTATE and, if you want, SCALE in a single command.
In 2D work you usually use two point pairs: the first source point moves to the first destination point, and the second pair sets the rotation. AutoCAD then asks whether to scale the objects based on the alignment points. It is ideal for fitting a part against another edge or straightening a rotated plan.
How to use it
- Type ALIGN or AL and press Enter.
- Select the objects and press Enter.
- Pick the first source point, then the first destination point.
- Pick the second source point, then the second destination point.
- Press Enter at the third point prompt and answer Yes or No to scaling.
Options
- Source and destination points
- One pair only moves the objects, two pairs move and rotate them, and three pairs are used for 3D alignment.
- Scale objects based on alignment points (Yes/No)
- Yes scales the objects so the distance between the source points matches the distance between the destination points.
Notes and tips
- Two point pairs with scaling turned on are a quick way to bring a scanned or wrongly scaled drawing to true size.
- Use object snaps when picking points for an accurate alignment.
